6 Tips for a Pest Free Summer

  1. Trim Bushes & Limbs – Bushes and limbs brushing up against the house is one of the many ways bugs find their way into your home! Using the branches and leaves as a bridge, they can easily climb into your home in search for food and water.
  2. Keep Yard Trimmed & Raked – Overgrowth in your yard creates the perfect habitat for bugs to survive and thrive. So, don’t let them ruin your summer BBQ and ensure your grass is routinely mowed.
  3. Install a Screen Door – With kids and dogs running in and out of the back door, it can be easy to forget and leave it wide open. Installing a screen door ensures everyone can have their fun outside and the bugs don’t find their way inside.
  4. Wear Bug Spray – Unfortunately, we can’t get rid of all the pests. So, when you venture outside bug spray can be a fantastic tool to ensure you come back bite-free. Look for bug spray with the active ingredients of DEET or Picardin, according to Scientific American they are regularly rated as the most effective.
  5. Check Home Perimeter for Potential Entryways – Potential entryways can be any cracks or holes around the foundation, loose weather stripping on the windows and doors, and old/rotting shingles on the roof.
  6. Keep an Eye Out for Standing Water – Having standing water around your home creates the perfect environment for a mosquito infestation! Things like pool covers, flower pots, buckets, barrels, and/or bird baths are common areas where standing water can build up.
