Winter, it seems, is going to make its presence felt in Arkansas this year. Cold temperatures, even sub-freezing ones, will mean critters of all varieties seeking shelter from the cold. And unfortunately, that includes pests. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared for them. Everything from rodents and insects to flies and ants will seek the warmth and relative safety of indoors in the winter months. Here are some tips that, in addition to Legacy’s pest control solutions, can help keep your home pest free this winter. Inspect the outside perimeter of your home for any openings that could potentially serve as entry points. That includes gaps around windows and doors, including garage doors. Don’t forget those window screens. It doesn’t take much of an opening for pests to exploit. Look for any gaps around the areas where any pipes or electrical and cable lines enter your home, and seal them. Again, it doesn’t take much of an opening. Attic fans, windows and vents must be inspected as well. Often, these areas aren’t screened, making it all the more easier for pests to get in. Seal any gaps around these areas, and don’t forget the eaves. Remember the chimney, where Santa Claus isn’t the only thing that can gain access. Close the damper when the fireplace is not in use, and if yours is a wood-burning fireplace, lighting a fire can discourage use of the chimney as an entry point. Of course, Legacy’s organic, comprehensive pest control solutions can help ensure you never need to worry about pests, but it never hurts to be prepared. So, place a “no vacancy” sign for pests on your home.
